Looking south. This is part of the A235 and was once the main road between London and Brighton. But Croydon, and most of Purley, were bypassed when Purley Way was opened in the 1920s, to become part of the A23, London to Brighton. Now, Purley Way itself needs a bypass, but the M23 has not (yet?) been extended further north than Merstham.
