This is the view directly across the single track road that runs down from Tor Clawdd into Clydach. The rails from one side of an old tramway can still be seen nearly buried in the tarmac as they cross to a blocked up mine entrance. The 1877 sheet on Old Maps shows that this was called Craig Merthyr Colliery. Confusingly, it appears that there was a more recent and much more substantial working a few valleys west of here, above Pontarddulais, called Graig Merthyr Colliery.
