The Great Central main line from Manchester and Sheffield to London Marylebone via Nottingham and Leicester was the last trunk route to be opened (1899) and the first to be closed (1966). Most traces of it have been obliterated in the north of Nottingham, but part of the remaining embankment north of Bulwell Hall Estate is used as a path. This is the view towards Hucknall and the north.
