The overgrown embankment is one of the more substantial remains of the Great Central Railway in the northern part of Nottingham, Most of the cuttings, tunnels, embankments, stations and bridges have been levelled. The GC was the last main line to be opened (1899) and the first to close (1966). This is the view towards Hucknall (and ultimately Sheffield and Manchester) from the Robin Hood Way byway.
