The sign says 'Niddrie Burn bifurcation', but I'm none the wiser. It seems to be the creation of a new river channel in progress, but with my limited knowledge of such things, I'm left guessing as to the purpose. Edinburgh City Council information on the net speaks of a new link road from Greendykes to the Royal infirmary, so I guess this work must be connected with that project.
