This started out as a Free Kirk, built in 1843, just after the Great Disruption of the Church of Scotland, when many congregations broke away to form the Free Church of Scotland. The spire was added in 1880; the architect of this was Hippolyte Jean Blanc. It is no longer in use as a church, but has been taken over as the church hall. I have attended Hogmanay dances there, where (a modest amount of) alcohol was available. The original congregation must be birling in their graves at such desecration.
