An oblique view of this now-defunct cinema taken from a central reservation strip on Valley Rd (A6514). It opened on 26th July 1937 and was taken over by the Associated British Cinemas chain in 1943. The ABC chain closed it in March 1976, after which time it was taken over by the Leeds-based Star Cinemas chain and converted into a bingo club. The balcony continued to be used for public film screenings on a trial basis however, his venture was short lived and "The Sound of Music" was the last film shown here on 13th August, 1977. It continued as a Star Bingo club, finally closing in 1979. Following this its contents were stripped out and “The Futurist” has been used for other purposes including a supermarket. It is currently unused.
