The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea not only has many royal connections but also many literary ones. William Makepeace Thackeray lived in Young Street, Onslow Square, then had a house, "Palace Green", built in Kensington Palace Gardens where he died in 1863. Christmas decorations at the Milestone Hotel surround the sign.
