The numbers on the buildings are a bit confusing, because most of them seem to have two numbers on the plate by the door. This, with No 22 next door, are the Edinburgh offices of IBM. It is also on record as Buchan House, and as No 1 or No 1a North St David Street. Nos 21 and 22 were built in 1775 by John Young in harmony with Nos 23-26, which were the first to be built on this side of the square. The ground floor No 21 was re-faced in ashlar in 1845 and the Doric porch and entablature were added.
