A Georgian terrace, typical of the New Town of Edinburgh, Albany Street is named after one of the premier dukedoms of Scotland, first created in 1398 for the brother of King Robert III and always bestowed on a close relative of the monarch. Alba is the Gaelic for Scotland, and Albany generally refers to the part of the country north of the Midland Valley.
