Stately late-Georgian house built for wealthy merchant and slave trader Thomas Parr, c1799. The central block is flanked by lower wings (built as counting house and carriage house). The original architect is not recorded, but Edmund Aikin added the fine Greek Doric porch in 1815 as part of conversion into the Liverpool Royal Institution (a lecture theatre was also added), and John Foster senior did some later work. Grade II listed. It is currently, at least partly, riskily entrusted to students as accommodation.
