Paisley Canal is very much Paisley's 'other' station; Gilmour Street to the north is the more important. In fact, this line has had a chequered history. Prior to 1966 trains ran through here between Glasgow's St Enoch station and Kilmacolm; after the closure of St Enoch trains ran to and from Glasgow Central but the service continued until 1983 when it was withdrawn. That might have been the end of the story, but in 1990 a service was reinstated from Glasgow only as far as Paisley, although the present Canal station is not on the original site.
