Gardens on the site of Cumberland Basin

The gerdens here, which are seen from an old bridge on Parkway, were originally the site of a canal arm known as Cumberland Basin. During the Second World War, the arm was used to supply water to fire pumps attending fires through the West End, but by 1948 the arm and basin were filled in with rubble from demolished buildings. The London Zoo car park on the other side of Parkway and these gardens now cover the site. A short stub of the basin is all that is now left where the Feng Shang Chinese Restaurant is located - see http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2861893
