Until recently (2005) this line served mainly as the emergency bypass line for the main Cardiff to Haverfordwest main line. Now it has been re-opened to regular passenger traffic for services between Cardiff and Bridgend with new stations at Rhoose and Llantwit Major. The building behind is Aberthaw Power Station.
