The footpath is on the old trackbed of the Lewes to Uckfield railway line. Forty years after closure there is still pressure from some quarters to reopen the line, not least as an alternative to alleviate congestion on the London to Brighton line. One of the issues facing reopening would be potential traffic on the actual portion itself which is essentially a rural area and is served by a regular bus route. From a purely nostalgic perspective though, it would be nice to see the line open again.
