In Victorian times, and probably earlier, it was quite common to name public houses after well-known trades. Hence there are quite a few with this name. The plumbers were one of the medieval London guilds and were in existence by at least 1365. Presumably this sign is based on the Plumbers Guild coat of arms. Image Image
