In the now closed Northbrook Cemetery, for John Mowlem, died March 8th 1868, aged 79 years. Mowlem laid the foundations for Swanage's Victorian success by exporting Purbeck limestone for building works in London. This obelisk is made from granite from Guernsey, where he owned a quarry; it was worked by a Guernsey mason.
