Beneath the tags the sign reads: 'SOUTH MANCHESTER COMMUNITY COLLEGE DELIVERY VEHICLES ONLY'. That was the name under which the adult education centre was formerly operated, alongside several other sites in South Manchester. This site, abutting Chorlton Park, was originally a primary school and senior elementary school, the senior school becoming Chorlton Park Secondary Modern in the 1940s, or shortly thereafter. The secondary school buildings were substantially extended in 1958/9. I assume that the now disused caretaker's bungalow (just visible here) is of a similar date.
