Reformed Presbyterians are often referred to as the Covenanters and are a late 17th century breakaway movement from the Presbyterian Church in Ireland. In theology and outlook they differ markedly from another brake-away group the Non-subscribing Presbyterians whose beliefs are closely akin to those of the Unitarians. The Reform movement nowadays has less than 2000 communicants. This church in Rathfriland was built in 1861 and replaced an earlier building of 1777. Locally, it is often referred to as "The Rock" church. An early minister of the church, William Stavely, was twice imprisoned for his part in the United Irishmen's Rebellion of 1798. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reformed_Presbyterian_Church_of_Ireland
