In 1965 comprehensive education was still being debated. At this time the boys at Heaton Grammar were kept apart from the girls at Heaton High by a wall just behind the newly built cricket pavilion. Very soon after this was taken the two schools on this site were to be merged with Manor Park school to become a co-educational school, Heaton Manor. The old Manor Park school - only opened in 1959 - has been demolished and the site reused for housing. This building has also gone, to be replaced by a modern school, using much of the playing field area.
