View westward, towards Peterborough and towards the ex-GN&GE main line to Spalding, Lincoln and Doncaster. The GN&GE main line, normally used primarily for freight, became briefly busy on Summer Saturdays with passenger traffic. Here the 08.53 Sunderland - Yarmouth Vauxhall, which ran on only a few Saturdays in July and August, is headed by one of the ubiquitous Thompson B1 4-6-0s, No. 61300 (built 3/48, withdrawn 11/63): it is due at Yarmouth at 17.25 - 8½ hours with small children?!
