Plucked outcrop

Image: © Jonathan Wilkins Taken: 2 Mar 2012

The glacially-smoothed profile (right) of this ridge by Cerrig-y-Ddinas gives way on its western edge to extensive plucking (quarrying by a glacier of fragmented rock), making it a classic roche moutonnée, but that does not accord with ice movement northwards along the main valley. The steep dip of these volcaniclastic rocks can also be appreciated in this image.
