The nearer was built for the Co-operative Society, c1900, long and low. Now offices. The further, with its chimney, was the Vulcan Works, an ironworks of c1888-89. Now flats. Grade II listed. In the foreground are tram extension works. The wall is part of a bridge going under Great Ancoats Street. I think this is the East Manchester line which will run from Piccadilly to Droylsden (by 2012) and Ashton-under-Lyne (by 2013-14).
