View SE, towards London: ex-Midland St Pancras - Leicester etc. main line. Running on the Down Slow line, the 17.20 St Pancras - St Albans is headed by LMS Fowler 3MT 2-6-2T No. 40022, built 1931 as No. 15522 and one of the first 40 built in 1930-1 fitted with condensing apparatus for working through the tunnels onto the Metropolitan Widened lines in London; it was withdrawn in 12/62 - the last of the Fowler 2-6-2Ts.
