The small parish of Burcot seems not to have had a church for much of its history. Presumably with the large Abbey church just along the road in Dorchester it wasn't considered worth it. However, in 1869 this church was built. Its status was "chapel of ease" which I'm guessing makes it less important than a parish church. It cost £700 to build, and the architect was George Gilbert Scott. It doubled as the village school until that was closed in 1922. Since then it has been a private house.
