This canalised section of river near the campus of the University of Birmingham ran alongside Arley Road (to the left) and Bristol Road (to the right). Since this photo was taken in January 2006 the view has changed radically. Bristol Road has been widened on the south side in connection with the Selly Oak New Road scheme, and much of this section of river has been culverted. The photographer's position in Image taken in December 2011 is a few metres to the south.
