Standing in typical surroundings, LMS Stanier 4MT 2-6-4T No. 42444 (built 1937, withdrawn 5/64) is engaged in working the service from Manchester Victoria via Bury. A service from Rochdale had operated until 1947 (goods 1963): the line from Rawtenstall was closed on 3/12/66, back to Bury on 3/6/72.
