An attractive late-C19th composition with a variegated facade of at least two colours of brick and striped stone bands at the top. The roofline is punctuated by pedestals and chimneys. The listing describes the style as "eclectic", a handy catch-all adjective, "with some C17 Renaissance features" (e.g. the casement windows). Grade II listed. It is now the Great John Street Hotel.
