In Wellington Road, the red-brick frontage is the former Samuel Edge* and Son Shoe Factory, built c1914 when his Millfield Road premises became too small, and then extended later to the right. The current operation retains the name of Edge, but is not family owned. It deals with imports from the far east (mainly) and is owned by a wholesaler and on-line retailer formed in 1995, who took over this site after 2002. * born 1861 The full story: http://www.localhistory.scit.wlv.ac.uk/listed/edges/edges01.htm
