Seen from the footpath, the moated site is very obvious and even more obvious in a satellite view. The moat and the surrounding land was once the site of the Medieval settlement of Bruton. The site is a scheduled ancient monument and there is a great deal of detail at: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1016923
