One of the most ancient and grandest coaching inns in England. The current Angel & Royal is a late 15th Century facade though there has been an inn here since the 13th century when the Knights Templar and later the Knights Hospitaller provided accommodation for travellers. It was known as the Commandery of the Knights Templars.
