The Bat and Ball House

Originally an old coaching inn called the Bat and Ball dating from the 18th century it was named after an adjoining field on the old Dicker Common that was used for cricket. Throughout the 19th century the inn and the neighbouring fields were the venue for an annual sheep and cattle fair held on 23 July. The inn appears to have closed sometime in the 1960s and has now been converted into a private residence.
