Built sometime in the 18th century to serve the parish of Chiddingly and closed around 1835 when the smaller local parishes were amalgamated into Hailsham Poor Law Union, it is marked on the 1839 tithe map as the Old Workhouse. The building became a private residence after that becoming known as Robin Mead which is the name it is currently marked on maps as though the gate has a sign indicating the building is called The Old Workhouse so it may have recently reverted back to that name.
