If I read the inscription beneath the centre window correctly this cottage was constructed in 1837. The sharp bend gives a clue to the former 't' junction that once existed here with original route continuing straight ahead then curving round to the former site of Chiddingly Place. The latter was in ruins by the end of the 18th century so may well account for this highway becoming unused though it is still a public footpath, see Image To the left is Image partially built on a former field called Birch Lane Field according to Chiddingly's 1839 tithe map.
