A memorial to miners killed at Monktonhall Colliery in accidents throughout the mine's lifetime. Mention should also be made of the brave miners of Monktonhall who sank their redundancy money into keeping the colliery open after the 1980s political destruction of the industry. Sadly geology defeated them and the mine closed.
