The entrance includes a mosaic by Hans Tisdall, 1967, entitled The Alchemist's Elements. It depicts the four classical elements - fire, earth, air and water. As reported by the Manchester Modernist Society, it has not been well treated: http://manchestermodernists.wordpress.com/2012/01/23/the-alchemists-elements-hans-tisdall-faraday-building-umist-campus/.
