The M62 was originally projected to end very close to Liverpool city centre at Islington. Instead, plans were scaled back such that one of the finest pieces of motorway construction in the UK inelegantly drops from a viaduct to street level, joining the A5080 in a mess of tight curves with traffic needing to make swift choices about which lane to use prior to meeting Queens Drive.
