The tiny building in the foreground houses the offices of the Old Corporation of Malmesbury. Founded in 937 by King Athelstan, the "Old Corporation" was formed when the King gave those who had fought for him a reward in the form of land on King's Heath (Malmesbury Common). This land has been passed down to the descendants of these freemen, known as "Commoners" for a thousand years, and the tradition continues today. Note the mounting block in the foreground.
