View southward, towards Edlington (Doncaster) on the ex-L&Y Dearne Valley line from Wakefield via Crofton Junction to Edlington and the ex-GN at Black Carr Junction. On this line a passenger service had run from Wakefield to Edlington, serving Grimethorpe Halt near here, until 9/51: mineral traffic continued until 1966. The train is headed by WD 2-8-0, No. 90631, which was built as 8626 (later 78626) in 3/44, stored (probably at Melbourne) until shipped in 11/44. Overseas it was lent to the US Army 2/45-8/45, then kept by 21st Army Group in Germany until returned late in 1947 and stored at Parkestone LNE, but appears not to have been put into service until 5/49; it was then allocated to Wakefield on the LMR, where as BR No. 90631 it spent all its life until withdrawn in 1/67.
