The paddling pool (drained for the winter) is behind this monument to the famous Billy the Seal Billy was accidentally caught in fishing nets in 1912 and was "re-homed" in Victoria park. When the area flooded in 1927 he temporarily escaped and tried to board a tram. When he died in 1939 "he" was found to be a "she".
