I stopped on a narrow country road near Wark Common Farm to consult the map and consider my next move when I noticed a kestrel (Falco tinnunculus) swooping down on a prey item in the grass verge. After its meal it flew on to the roadside hedge and I was able to get some close range photos from the car with the window down before it flew off.
