A Blue Plaque on these buildings, erected by the Wakefield Civic Society in 1995 says , ' Caleb Crowther M.D. , 1769 - 1849 built these Almshouses for poor nonconformists to the design of William Shaw, Railway Contractor and fellow worshipper at the Zion Chapel nearby.'
