The child seems very relaxed. He was a descendant of Sir Francis Drake's brother, and died in 1696, though at what age is not clear. The verse underneath reads: "'This infant fled from our admiring sight His stay so short, so sudden was his flight That he has taught us by his hasting hence That th'earth's too vile for so much innocence Reader relent since thou noe more shall see This matchless child but in his effigie".
