The line was opened in 1848, later becoming part of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway. The house is now occupied privately, but the owner is a railway enthusiast who has collected a number of L&Y signs to decorate it. A feature of the station is the retention of the original low platform by the house, rising to a full height section further along.
