I hope this is still as true now as it was when the statue was erected in 1720. St. Michael's welcome did not seem to extend to Google when its Streetview van passed by. The significance of the emblems on the burgh coat-of-arms is explained here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linlithgow#Coat_of_Arms
