It is frequently said that Birmingham has more miles of canal than Venice. It also has Gondolas - well one at least, moored in the short arm behind the Mailbox. I am told, although I'd be grateful if anyone can confirm it, that this gondola formerly belonged to Marie Corelli and was used by her on the River Avon at Stratford. Marie Corelli is buried in Stratford-upon-Avon, and as can be seen from Image she remains eccentric even in death! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marie_Corelli
