Summerseat House is a large detached house built in 1836 by Richard Hamer, the owner of a cotton mill. In 1911, it became used as a convalescent home for sick children. **** has Lillian Galloway's recollections of time spent at the house in the 1930s. It is now used as a special school "New Summerseat House". It is a Grade II listed building. **** link temporarily removed as external site appears to have been hacked
