The small stream is graced with the name River Mantle, although it later flows into the Kings Brook. It runs down the middle of the street, and the willows are a relatively modern arrival. Photos from the early 1900s linked from the Wolds Historical Organisation website http://www.hoap.co.uk/who/index.htm show the stream in flood stretching the full width of the street, but water flow is more managed these days.
