A gas pipeline stretching from Easington on the east coast, to Nether Kellet near Lancaster, relies on stockpiles of pipes like this one near Ingleton for temporary storage. A network of marked backroads are used to get the 4ft-wide pipes into the ground and out of sight for the soon to be imported Norwegian gas .
