Flagship department store built in the 1920s and due to close in February 2007. London Road has been a major shopping area since the 19th century but has fallen on hard times in the last 20 years as the big stores; WH Smith, Marks and Spencer and others have closed their smaller stores to consolidate one major site in the city. The Co-op laboured on but with dwindling customers have decided to call it a day. What will become of the purpose built store has yet to be announced but I'd imagine it would be broken down into smaller retail units. The old car to the left is part of the London-Brighton Veteran Car Rally.
